The Groundwork

Getting to Colombières-sur-orb

Our village is located in the stunning Haut Languedoc natural park, the Herault, Southern France. It has good transport links. We are about a 50-minute drive from Beziers train station or Beziers airport (Ryanair) or 90 minutes from Montpellier airport (Easyjet); tickets are usually reasonable when booked in advance.

There are regular fast TGV trains to Montpellier and Beziers, and from there a train/bus to our nearby town Bedarieux several times a day from where we can collect you. You are welcome to either hire a car or we can provide pick-ups and drop-offs for an additional cost of 45 Euros from Beziers.

By car, you can reach us from South-East England in one very long’s day’s drive, or in two comfortably, with a night’s stop-off. The roads are rarely busy, well-maintained and the second half of the drive is breath-taking. Be aware that some French autoroutes charge tolls.

Accommodation

You’ll stay on-site in one of our self-contained gite spaces, with your own bedroom. These spaces are simple but cosy and comfortable, with Wifi, and access to a kitchen and bathroom.  Bed linen and towels are provided.

What to bring

You’ll stay on-site in one of our self-contained gite spaces, with your own bedroom. These spaces are simple but cosy and comfortable, with Wifi, and access to a kitchen and bathroom.  Bed linen and towels are provided. Think to bring:

  • Clothes/layers for a variety of temperatures, and comfortable to move in.

  • Indoor shoes / slippers / socks if you like warm feet.

  • Between June and September: sunscreen, swimming costume, swimming towel, a hat and mosquito repellent.

  • Outdoor shoes and waterproofs – for hiking at times on rocky ground.

Food

When meals are provided they will be sourced with largely local, seasonal and organic food – the region excels at this. There are vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options. If you have special dietary requirements beyond that, please let us know and we will do our best to work with you.

Jonathan is a food lover and passionate self-taught chef of 30 years’ experience. Inspired by seasonal quality foods, and by what we can access in the garden and wild foraging, he creates dishes of pure culinary delight to serve many different kinds of palettes, eating choices and allergies.

For holiday retreats, we can offer you a delicious three-course dinner, cooked by Jonathan, on your night of arrival (or another night) at an extra cost.
